He is known for having founded, in 1973, Rent-A-Center, Inc., which, under his leadership as CEO, developed into the nation’s largest rent-to-own chain. The company went public in 1983 and subsequently sold to Thorn EMI in late 1987.
Devlin is further known as the developer and owner of Flint Hills National Golf Club, which opened in 1997. Located in Andover, KS, the development includes a nationally ranked, Tom Fazio-designed golf course surrounded by a high-end gated residential community.
Mr. Devlin is active in civic affairs as well as many philanthropic endeavors. Additionally, he has served on the boards of several private and publicly held companies, served as a frequent speaker on topics that include management and entrepreneurship, and participated in the publishing of a book written about his life and Rent-A-Center titled Playing Though.
A Kansas Golf Hall of Fame inductee, Devlin is a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and Society of Seniors. Devlin, who is a Golf Digest panelist emeritus, is director of the Trans-Mississippi Golf Association.
Devlin, 69, attended Wichita State University. He and his wife of 44 years, Myra, have two sons, Tom Jr. and Tim, and four grandchildren.
Jeff originally joined Flint Hills National Golf Club as a member in 1997 and has served as President of the Club since 2003. Jeff’s involvement in the Wichita community includes sitting on the boards of the Sedgwick County Zoo, Wichita Collegiate School, Youth Entrepreneurs of Kansas (YEK), and Capitol Federal Bank. Jeff’s primary responsibilities at Flint Hills National are membership recruitment and retention as well as generating operating revenue.
Mike joined the Flint Hills National team in March 2020. He has been in the hospitality industry, in both restaurants and private clubs, for over 30 years. Mike started his hospitality career as a bartender and worked through to Executive Chef and ultimately General Manager. Before coming to Flint Hills National, Mike served as the Clubhouse Manager at Wichita Country Club and Crestview Country Club. Mike is an active member of the Club Management Association of America. At Flint Hills National, you can find him throughout the Club or checking on Lodges daily.
Paul began at Flint Hills National in January 1996 during construction of the course. He has been a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America for 25 years and has been employed in the golf course maintenance industry for over 35 years. Paul is responsible for overseeing the playing conditions of the Flint Hills golf course and the 240 acres it encompasses.
Dave has been with Flint Hills National since the very beginning! He joined the team in 1996 and, for over 25 years, has been managing the Club’s daily golf operations the Director of Golf. Additionally, Dave is responsible for overseeing the Club’s tournament schedule and golf activities program and coordinating all communications for our golf operation. Dave has several decades of golf experience, having previously been at Crestview Country Club from 1987-1996, and has been a member of the PGA since 1991.
Andy graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, in 2002 and has been with Flint Hills National Golf Club since 2003, where he currently serves as the Club’s Head Golf Professional. Andy manages the caddies, service and sales staff, golf course play, and the driving range. He also oversees all Pro Shop merchandising and member special orders and is responsible for the inventory and organization of the shop.
Seth was a golf standout at Winfield High School and Southwestern College here in Kansas. He went on to win several individual tournaments, including back-to-back individual KCAC Conference Championships, and was selected as an NAIA All-American. Seth’s approach to golf instruction is to help players maximize their unique potential through an individual development plan based off their strengths, weaknesses, and physical abilities. Seth enjoys helping students of all ages and ability levels achieve their goals through performance-based coaching.
Kristy started in the floral/landscaping industry in 1996. She spent 12 years as a florist and floral manager before joining the Flint Hills National team in 2010. At Flint Hills, Kristy and her team are responsible for maintaining and cultivating the amazing landscape around the grounds. She and her team are constantly working to beautify our Club and are also responsible for the various flowers, centerpieces and decorations that can be found around our Clubhouse and property.
Dylan joined the Flint Hills team in 2012. His passion for working on golf courses started at a young age – his first job was caddying at Flint Hills National at age 14. Dylan went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in golf course management from Kansas State University. He has been a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America for over 12 years and has volunteered for several USGA tournaments, including the U.S. Open. Utilizing his knowledge and experience, Dylan ensures daily playing conditions are of championship caliber.
Corey grew up right here in Andover, Kansas, before receiving a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from Kansas State University. After graduating from KSU, Corey moved to Norman, Oklahoma, for a position at the Jimmie Austin Golf Club at the University of Oklahoma. Corey joined the Flint Hills team in July 2017 and, since then, has been responsible for chemical processes including application and budget management.
Zack graduated from Rutgers University in 2017 and joined the Flint Hills National team in 2019. He has been employed in the golf course industry since 2010 and has been a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America since 2016. With his drive and experience, Zack effectively and efficiently ensures daily aesthetics and playability of the golf course.
Christina joined the Flint Hills National team in April 2022, having previously served as Food & Beverage Director at Capital City Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Christina is passionate about all things hospitality and private club management. She is an active member of the Club Management Association of America, both on the national and chapter levels, and currently serves on the National Board’s Advocacy Committee. Christina’s responsibilities at Flint Hills National include overseeing Clubhouse operations and managing the Food & Beverage teams.
Chef Andrew came to Flint Hills National in June 2019, having previously served as Executive Chef at The Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma. Chef Andrew’s culinary career began in private clubs, as he worked for over 12 years at Oakwood Country Club in Enid, Oklahoma. Chef Andrew brings a level head, thoughtful leadership, and several years of experience in the club business to the Flint Hills National team. Chef Andrew is excited to be heading the culinary team at Flint Hills National Golf Club and deliver exceptional experiences to our membership.
Matthew is the Office Manager/Lodging Director here at Flint Hills National Golf Club. He joined the Flint Hills National team in August 2022, having previously worked in the Devlin Enterprises office. Matthew is the primary point of contact for lodging availability and reservations, as well as questions on dues, statements, and billing. You can find Matthew in the Flint Hills office Monday-Friday and regularly checking on the lodges.
